Integrated Medical Systems, Inc. (IMS) is a national medical distributor serving healthcare providers across the United States with equipment, supplies, and support services for alternate site care. Founded in 1994, IMS operates at the intersection of distribution, rental, and biomedical services, supporting hospitals, clinics, and home care providers with time-sensitive, compliance-driven products. With a broad catalog, complex fulfillment requirements, and high expectations around reliability and service, IMS’s digital platforms play a critical role in enabling efficient ordering, account management, and operational coordination for its customers.

The Ask

IMS approaches Bighorn with several requests. Their previous solution partner failed to deliver solutions that were reliable. The various integrations and data flows including ERP and PIM were error prone and unreliable. The Magento 2 implementation was also not following best development practices; the IMS team and clients suffered from it. IMS needed a solution partner to step in and lead them on a comprehensive path to stability.

The Solution

Bighorn partnered with IMS to execute a comprehensive stabilization and modernization effort across its Magento 2 ecommerce platform. The engagement began with a full technical audit to identify the root causes of recurring failures, performance degradation, and unreliable integrations introduced by the prior implementation.

To establish a stable foundation, Bighorn migrated the platform to a new AWS-based hosting environment designed for scalability, reliability, and performance. From there, Bighorn replaced the existing middleware-based ERP integration with a direct integration to Epicor Prophet 21, eliminating a major source of errors and improving data accuracy across orders, inventory, pricing, and customer records.

Additionally, Bighorn implemented Pimcore for product data romancing and customized it to support IMS’s catalog complexity and internal workflows. This ensured cleaner data governance and more reliable synchronization with Magento. Extensive Magento 2 refactoring was also completed to align the codebase with platform best practices, improve performance, and reduce long-term maintenance risk.

The result is a stable, performant, and maintainable commerce platform—one capable of supporting IMS’s complex B2B requirements while providing a reliable foundation for future growth.

Orders, inventory, and product data flow cleanly between systems, while a refactored Magento 2 codebase delivers improved performance and easier ongoing maintenance. The result is a platform that supports IMS’s day-to-day operations without friction, allowing internal teams and customers alike to focus on execution rather than errors.
